{Tour & Giveaway} Dark Halo @ShanDitty

Release Date: August 20, 2013
320 pages

Summary from Goodreads:

One halo brought sight to Brielle. Another offers sweet relief from what she sees.
Brielle can’t help but see the Celestial realm. Even without the halo, it’s everywhere she looks. And with the heavens above Stratus ravaged by war, Brielle wishes for another gift, any gift. Because Jake is gone. The only boy she’s ever loved has been taken by the demon, Damien—and she knows if she ever wants to see him again, she must fight.
But fighting is so hard when everything you see makes you afraid.
When she receives instructions from the Throne Room leading her to Jake, she unknowingly walks into a diabolical and heartbreaking trap. Then the Prince of Darkness himself offers Brielle a halo of his own making. With the dark halo, she won’t have to see the fear and brokenness that surround her. She’ll be free of that unbearable burden. And it comes with a promise: the guarantee of a life with Jake.
When confusing details about Jake’s past emerge, and the battle above reaches a fever pitch, Brielle is forced to make a choice. Will she choose the dark halo and the ignorance that comes with it, or will she choose to live with her eyes wide open and trust the Creator’s design—even if it means a future without Jake?

Alright this one I looked at as soon as I got it! Then my daughter looked at it, then the husband, my mom, lol even the two year old wanted a peek!  When I ordered this I didnt really take the time to see what it really was.  I thought it was just a normal companion book to the movie World War Z.  However, It isn't!  This is full of production shots, drawings, and the ENTIRE SCREENPLAY!! I think they should have stuck with the normal movie companion.  Not that this book isnt neat per say.  But, if you have seen the movie or even if you haven't.  I dont see why anyone would want to have a copy of the screenplay?!

Now saying that I did love some of the new information that was given in this book.  Again wishing it was a normal companion so I could have known more about the process of the Z's would have been amazing!  But anyway here are some wonderful tidbits from the book!

Pg. 142 "The longer the disease has been in the host the more emaciated the host becomes."- Andrew R. Jones, Animation Consultant

Now that was kind of neat!  A few pages back it shows how the Z's go from first being infected to a period of 6 months.  In that time frame the body begins to deteriorate and the skin sucks onto the bone.

Other areas of this book that I would have really loved to know more about are the following.

1. The Green Screen filming
2. The infection itself
3. The locations
4. Misshaps and Mistakes made
5. Any other cool info.

So with this all being said.  If you love having a copy of the screenplay laying around by all means go out and snag this one!  But, if screenplays just are not your thing? Then ya skip this one for something else!

  • Athena the Wise Zeus says Heracles has to do twelve tasks or he’ll get kicked out of MOA! Although she’s not sure it’s wise, Athena agrees to help out.
  • Aphrodite the Diva Isis claims she’s the goddess of love? Ha! But to keep the title all to herself, Aphrodite has to find the perfect match for Pygmalion, the most annoying boy ever.

Author Suzanne Williams
Suzanne Williams is the award-winning author of nearly 40 books for children, from picture books and easy readers to chapter books and middle grade fiction series. A former elementary school librarian, she lives near Seattle. Her picture book Library Lil (illustrated by Steven Kellogg) won the New Mexico children’s choice award in 2000 and was on several other state award lists. She is co-author (with Joan Holub) of the popular Goddess Girls series(for ages 8 – 12) and Heroes in Training (ages 6 – 11). Other series include Fairy Blossoms and Princess Power.

Author Joan Holub
I graduated from college in Texas with a fine arts degree, and then freelanced as an art director at a graphic design firm for eight years. I dreamed of working in children’s books, so I moved to New York City and became associate art director in Scholastic trade books, where I designed books for children and worked with editors and illustrators. It was a great job.
I illustrated my first published children’s book in 1992 and soon began illustrating full time. I began completing manuscripts and mailing them out to publishers in the early 1990s. In 1996, I sold my first two manuscripts — Boo Who? A Spooky Lift-the-Flap Book (Scholastic) and Pen Pals (Grosset & Dunlap). Yippee!
Now I write full time and have written and/or illustrated over 130 children’s books. Creating books that entertain, inform, and interest children (and me) is a fabulous job that I truly love.

This is a great series to introduce your girls to the world of mythologoy.  They are short and fast paced and for ages 8-12.  As the series goes each book is a little thicker.  Which I think is great!  Here is a list of all the books in this wonderful series!  Join us tomorrow as we look at the next one in the series!

Get to know Goddess Girl Pheme…the original “gossip girl”!As the goddess girl of rumor and gossip, Pheme prides herself on being “in the know” and having the most up-to-date info on anyone and everyone at Mount Olympus Academy. To make sure that people really get her VIP messages, her words tend to linger in cloud letters above her head—just in case people don’t catch what she says!

But not everyone is thrilled with Pheme’s insider knowledge on everything MOA—including the Goddess Girls. Can Pheme ever be trusted? Or will this “gossip girl” find herself on the other end of the rumors?

{Review} Wrestling With Tom Sawyer #L.L. Samson @Zonderkidz

There's no one under the sun like Tom Sawyer! School is back in session, and all of Kingscross is abuzz with news of a burglar specializing in fine antiques and rare books. Seven Hills Rare Books has battened down the hatches. Meanwhile, preparations are underway for the monthly party, 'Bare Feet and a Straw Hat Never Hurt Anybody.' For the 'evening with Mark Twain, ' Ophelia has set to reading Tom Sawyer, and the gang agrees that the mischievous boy should be brought into Real World. He'd be a refreshing change, much easier to handle, and they could easily pass him off as a student. However, Tom immediately picks a fight with Walter, falls in love with Ophelia, and tries to one-up Linus's scientific discoveries with tales of treasure hunting and cave exploring. When Ophelia is kidnapped by the thief, Tom is determined to save her like he did Becky Thatcher. The question is, will it be too late?
This one was really good. I really liked Wrestling with Tom Sawyer!  This was a really great mid-grade adventure. It will be a very easy read for kids.  And they will be able to identify with the characters.  I believe that this one will get boys to read as it will be something they want to read!

{Review} Pandora the Curious @JoanHolub

Pandora the Curious (Goddess Girls, #9)Is Pandora about to open up a box of trouble?

One of the few mortals at Mount Olympus Academy, Pandora is famous for her mega quizzical nature—not that she thinks there’s anything wrong with being curious, of course!

Her curiosity kicks into high gear when a godboy named Epimetheus brings a mysterious box to school. Epimetheus is the nephew of an MOA teacher in whose class Pandora once opened another box that sent
a few weather disasters to earth. Still, Pandora can’t help but take a peek inside this new box when it unexpectedly lands in her lap. What could be the harm in that, right? Little does she know that opening the box will open up far more trouble than she ever expected!

Authors Joan Holub and Suzanne Williams put a modern spin on classic myths with the Goddess Girls series. Follow the ins and outs of divine social life at Mount Olympus Academy, where the most privileged godboys and goddessgirls in the Greek pantheon hone their mythical skills.

This one was great! The answer is right in front of your face and you wont see it until the end which I thought was wonderful! To many books are predictable so this was a fresh glass of water.  Set in two time periods (1890 & 2012) this author weaves a wonderful mystery about the Widows of Braxton County.  This story includes woman's rights and about how hatred can eat you alive.
