Countess Sophia Orlova has it all. With a large fortune, a beautiful palatial home in Petrograd and a husband who loves her, her future is bright. But in March 1917, everything changes, as Sophia watches the revolutionary hordes take over her city and her home. When the revolutionaries threaten to shoot Sophia and her husband Dmitry, they are saved by a young man – Nikolai, Dmitry’s brother, a fervent supporter of the Bolshevik party, estranged from his family because of his political beliefs.
As Russia descends into the chaos of revolution, Sophia and Nikolai grow close. Trapped on the opposite sides of the terrifying political conflict that engulfs the country, they fight against their feelings for each other and hide them from everyone they love. Then a number of high-ranking Bolsheviks are arrested for inciting an insurrection – Nikolai captured among them.
Dmitry insists they leave at once for Sophia’s own safety, but how can she abandon Nikolai when he needs her the most?
