#BookReview: Nights of Obedience by Rachel Mays

ABOUT THIS BOOK:
Emilie
I never asked to marry King Cyrus, the ruler of the neighboring realm. But after his wife passed away, my parents saw an opportunity to gain his favor. They didn’t hesitate to offer my hand in marriage. Despite the circumstances, I’m determined to make the best of the situation. After all, becoming royalty comes with plenty of advantages. But first I’ll have to get past an unexpected obstacle—the king’s brother, Ladon.

Ladon
I’ll do anything to protect my family, even if it means sabotaging my brother’s upcoming marriage. I know the truth—that Emilie is a money-hungry opportunist who is unfit to be the queen. I'll do whatever it takes to see their engagement come to an end. She thought she was entering paradise, but I’m going to give her hell.

Until disaster strikes...
Now, we only have each other. Working together might be the only way to survive the twisted games we’ll be forced to play.

REVIEW:
Reading Nights of Obedience by Rachel Mays felt like being pulled into a dark, enchanting world where passion and danger are intricately woven together. From the start, I was hooked by the intense enemies-to-lovers dynamic and the compelling tension that drove the story.

The book expertly balances rapid pacing with deep, morally complex characters. Mays' portrayal of their chemistry and conflict was both gripping and satisfying. I especially appreciated the dual POV, which gave me a deeper understanding of both main characters and their evolving relationship.

The world-building is another highlight. The atmosphere reminded me of the intense Under The Mountain scenes in ACOTAR, adding a layer of immersive drama that I found irresistible. Mays’ detailed descriptions and complex characters made the setting come alive in a way that kept me fully engaged.

By the end, I was left eagerly awaiting the next book. The story wraps up with just enough resolution to be satisfying but leaves enough open to make me crave the next installment. If you enjoy dark, romantic fantasy with high stakes and rich storytelling, Nights of Obedience is a must-read that will keep you hooked.
