My Review: "Star Daughter" by Shveta Thakrar is a beautifully written novel that transports readers into a rich and vibrant world inspired by Hindu mythology. The story follows Sheetal Mistry, a half-mortal, half-star, as she embarks on a journey to the celestial court to save her father. Thakrar's prose is lyrical and enchanting, bringing to life the dazzling starry realm and its inhabitants.

The novel's greatest strength lies in its world-building. Thakrar's imagination shines in the depiction of the celestial court, with its intricate customs, politics, and otherworldly beauty. The cultural elements woven throughout the narrative add depth and a refreshing perspective to the YA fantasy genre. Additionally, the themes of identity, family, and self-discovery are thoughtfully explored.

However, the story's pacing can be uneven at times, with certain plot points feeling rushed while others drag. While Sheetal is a compelling protagonist, some of the supporting characters lack sufficient development, which can make their motivations and relationships feel underexplored. The romance subplot, while sweet, could have benefited from more buildup to make it truly resonate.

Despite these flaws, "Star Daughter" is an engaging read that offers a unique and magical adventure. Fans of mythology-inspired fantasy and lyrical storytelling will find much to appreciate in Thakrar's debut novel. It's a promising start, though there is room for growth in character development and pacing.
