For the past nine years, ever since a bunch of those evil Tinkerbells abducted her mother, cursed her father, and forced her family into hiding, Bryn has devoted herself to learning everything she can about killing the Fae. Now it’s time to put those lessons to use.
Then the Court Fae finally show up, and Bryn realizes she can’t handle this on her own. Thankfully, three friends offer to help: Gwen, a kindhearted water witch; Dom, a new foster kid pulled into her world; and Jasika, a schoolmate with her own grudge against the Fae.
But trust is hard-won, and what little Bryn has gained is put to the test when she uncovers a book of Fae magic that belonged to her mother. With the Fae threat mounting every day, Bryn must choose between faith in her friends and power from a magic that could threaten her very humanity.

My Review: "Ironspark" by C.M. McGuire is a young adult urban fantasy that follows Bryn, a teenage girl who battles faeries to protect her family and uncover the mysteries of her past. The novel offers an intriguing mix of faerie lore, action, and personal struggle, making it a compelling read for fans of the genre.
McGuire excels at creating a dark and captivating world where faeries are dangerous and omnipresent. The detailed lore and creative world-building provide a fresh take on faerie mythology. Bryn is a strong and determined protagonist, and her fierce loyalty to her family is a driving force in the narrative. The themes of trauma, resilience, and self-discovery are thoughtfully woven into the story, adding depth to Bryn's journey.
However, the pacing of the novel can be uneven at times. Some plot developments feel rushed, leaving little room for character development and emotional impact. While Bryn is a well-drawn character, some of the supporting cast could have been more fully realized to enhance the story's emotional stakes. Additionally, the romantic subplot, while sweet, feels somewhat underdeveloped and could benefit from more depth and exploration.
Despite these issues, "Ironspark" is a promising debut that offers an engaging adventure with a unique take on faerie lore. McGuire's writing shows potential, and readers who enjoy urban fantasy with strong heroines will find much to appreciate. It's a solid start that leaves room for growth in future installments, hinting at exciting developments to come.
