Enter Warren, a surly mechanic’s apprentice attempting to get custody of his deaf fifteen-year-old brother after failing CPS’ housing evaluation. The two strangers immediately clash but agree to live together until Warren can find housing elsewhere and Chloe can further grow her freelance career.
As their lives intertwine, Chloe and Warren both realise that they’re far more similar than they could have imagined. What started as forced begins to feel natural—and far less lonely. Chemistry soon intensifies beyond what either of them can stand, but they must each decide if what burns between them is worth risking their arrangement and, ultimately, the well-being of their siblings.
With banter, heart, and steam that will have the reader blushing, Next of Kin is a true underdog story of two young adults redefining what family can look like.

My Review: Chloe had to grow up quickly. This is typical when your parents aren’t able to parent anymore. She knows what it’s like to go through the foster system with a parent who isn’t able to keep clean. When she unexpectedly finds herself in the position to adopt her baby sister, she doesn’t hesitate. She doesn’t want the same rough childhood for her baby sister. Warren built a tough shell around himself due to his rough childhood and foster care experience. He doesn’t need or want anyone close to him. All he needs is his brother. When CPS pairs Chloe and Warren together to meet the requirements of having custody of their respective siblings, they butt heads immediately. Will Chloe be able to break down Warren’s shell? Will Warren let her?
Hannah Bonam-Young is so good at making beautiful love stories where you believe the couple will be together forever. This story didn’t rely on angst to make it compelling. There were no dramatic fights. Just two people working through their issues and sticking together. Every time I read one of Hannah’s books, I am left with the thought “I believe in love again”. I recommend this book to seasoned romance fans as well as those looking to try out the genre. You won’t be disappointed!
