My Review: I went into reading this book as a huge Lauren Asher fan, having read all of her published works thus far. So when I saw this title I was so excited to snatch it up.
Unfortunately, my excitement was quickly dashed, and I DNF’d this book about 75 pages in.
Personally, I felt like the story was all over the place and things that may have been able to provide context and background information to further the story were alluded to, but not explained in a way that made me want to keep reading.
I was also not a fan of the story changing from English to Spanish- I don’t want to have to keep stoping while I’m reading to translate an entire sentence of a story and it breaks up the flow of reading. IMO footnotes should be saved for academia and non-fiction works, not for a book I want to make a beachside read. ”
About the Author
Plagued with an overactive imagination, Lauren spends her free time reading and writing. Her dream is to travel to all the places she writes about. She enjoys writing about flawed yet relatable characters you can’t help loving. She likes sharing fast-paced stories with angst, steam, and the emotional spectrum.
Her extra-curricular activities include watching YouTube, binging old episodes of Parks and Rec, and searching Yelp for new restaurants before choosing her trusted favorite. She works best after her morning coffee and will never deny a nap.
