After eight long years, Evadne will finally be reunited with her older sister, Halcyon, who has been proudly serving in the queen’s army. But when Halcyon appears earlier than expected, Eva knows something has gone terribly wrong. Halcyon is on the run, hunted by her commander and charged with murder.
Though Halcyon’s life is spared during her trial, the punishment is heavy. And when Eva volunteers to serve part of Halcyon’s sentence, she’s determined to find out exactly what happened. But as Eva begins her sentence, she quickly learns that there are fates much worse than death.

My Review: Although I have loved a lot of Ross's titles this one was not one of them. This one was supposed to be young adult but it really reads like high juvenile and very very low young adult. With the content of the book it just felt very off. I think that the writing and story needed to figure out what it wanted to be and what it wanted to do.

"An immersive new fantasy that readers will want to curl up with. Will fascinate and draw in both fantasy readers and mythology lovers alike. This lyrical novel will have an eager, built-in audience in fans of “The Queen’s Rising” duology and will find new readers for Ross as well." — School Library Journal (starred review)
“Ross’ heroic epic is vividly inspired by ancient Greece, down to its poetic language…it revels in intricate plotting, political intrigue, and fascinating divinity-based magic.” — Booklist
“The story feels like a myth itself, with an emphasis on family dynamics and Herculean trials with some clever twists, including the innovative magic system...Fans of strong world building will appreciate Ross’ fond, meandering development, and fans of slow burn romances will likely swoon.” — Bulletin of the Center for Children’s Books
