In the middle of nothingness is the continent of Salvation.
Reality bends easily here. Villages disappear. Forests burn forever. Pockets of inconsistent time are everywhere, their boundaries strung with yellow ribbon. And the three kingdoms of Salvation have been at war for a thousand years.
But the greatest threat is the Malice, an incursion from the demon plane slowly tearing its way through the world's weakest seams. Seams that--once split--will lead to the total unraveling of night and day, light and dark, life and death.
Not that the human world takes much interest. Of more concern is the upcoming marriage of Rune Highcrown, Prince of Caberwill, and Johanne Fortuin, Princess of Embria--the serpent bride, a girl of famous cunning--which offers a possible end to the ancient conflict. But Rune has noticed the growing darkness, and he is determined to summon mankind's only defense: Nightrender, the hammer of the gods, an immortal warrior more weapon than girl.
There is only one problem. The last time she was summoned, she slaughtered every royal in Salvation, and no one knows why. Will she save humanity from the Malice... or plunge it deeper into the fires of eternal war?

My Review: This one was super disappointing. I don't think this had enough world building for a series. I would have liked more information about the world at large with the magic and gods. I felt that it was very light compared to others I've read. I think I might check out book two to see if it gets any better. But as this is concerned it could have been better.
Review
"Action and court intrigue fuel the pace of this duology-opening fantasy from Meadows. . . ."—Publishers Weekly
"Filled with wild twists and turns."—Booklist
"The worldbuilding is rich. . . . Will reward Meadows’ fans and entice them to return for the sequel."—Kirkus Reviews
"After reading just a single chapter of Nightrender, I knew it was something special. Jodi Meadows’ latest fantasy will suck you in as steadily as the Malice leaks into the world of Salvation and then hold you captive until the very last page. With cunning characters, epic stakes, and stunning worldbuilding, this novel is not to be missed. Utterly enthralling."—Erin Bowman, Edgar Award-nominated author of Dustborn and Vengeance Road
"An astoundingly creative new world populated by characters readers will fall in love with from a master of the fantasy genre. I loved every page!" —Lisa Maxwell, New York Times bestselling author of The Last Magician
"If you’re looking for a unique read, you need to pick up Nightrender! Not only does this book stand out in a crowded market, it also has some of my favorite character tropes. Immortal protagonist? Check. Morally gray protagonist? Check. Sweet cinnamon roll hero? Check. Jodi Meadows’ latest is a character-driven fantasy full of political intrigue, monsters, and fight scenes that will make you forget you’re reading a book in the first place." —Tricia Levenseller, Publishers Weekly bestselling author of The Shadows Between Us
"A vividly imagined fantasy as awe-inspiring as Nightrender herself. A gripping adventure that fascinates as well as entertains. Thought-provoking and powerful. Jodi Meadows is a master storyteller!"—Kathryn Purdie, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Bone Crier’s Moon
"Exquisitely crafted and endlessly fascinating, like the Nightrender’s black-glass wings."—Pintip Dunn, bestselling author of Star-Crossed and Malice
"Jodi Meadows weaves a spellbinding tale of warring kingdoms, political intrigue, breathless action, and forbidden magic, but her complex characters are the real standout. Reaching the last page, I didn't want to let the Nightrender go."—Kathleen Peacock, author of Globe 100 Book You Were Never Here
