#BookReview: Den of Spies (The Curse of the Dracula Brothers, #1) by RR Jones

Synopsis:  1442. Game of Thrones meets Hunger Games in Medieval Transylvania.

Young Ana had enough. When her father’s death leaves her at her cruel mother’s mercy, she flees her Transylvanian village to seek a new life. But she’s no ordinary girl, and fate beckons her toward a unique destiny.

When she stumbles upon a cutthroat contest for the spy academy, she’d rather die than lose. But she’s the only girl and can’t match her rivals’ magic strengths. Can this orphan’s grit earn her the thrilling life she craves, or will her soft heart be her downfall?

She’s elated to discover her gift and find a family. But when she gets sold into the Sultan’s harem, one mistake could crush her mission and end her life.

This spellbinding series, full of harem intrigue, forbidden love, and epic battles, stays true to history while painting a rich picture of medieval life. Read Den of Spies to join Vlad the Impaler and Mehmed the Conqueror in their historical feud. Watch a diverse cast of Transylvanian folklore heroes fight bloody battles, escape mortal danger, and crush the odds.

Trigger warning: The Curse of the Dracula Brothers series includes gritty scenes of violence and sexual assault.

My Review: I wanted to love this one so much. I mean look at that cover!! It is so gorgeous. But for me this story was just a mess.  I couldn't keep anything straight and I just kind of hated all the characters.

RR Jones was born in Transylvania, near Bran Castle, where the forests keep secrets, Dracula's spirit lives strong in the six-foot-thick walls, and long strings of garlic hang around the windows.

That's where she learned about magic from her Grandma. She skipped school to chase ghosts around the White Tower and crisscrossed the Carpathian to breathe in the pine incense imbued with Transylvanian magic.

These days she lives in the Adirondacks with her husband and the German Shepherd they belong to. But she still has a black cat. And a broom.

Transylvania's history and magic run deep in her blood. So she pours them into books.
