#BookReview: Lightlark (Lightlark #1) by Alex Aster

Synopsis: Welcome to the Centennial.

Every 100 years, the island of Lightlark appears to host the Centennial, a deadly game that only the rulers of six realms are invited to play. The invitation is a summons—a call to embrace victory and ruin, baubles and blood. The Centennial offers the six rulers one final chance to break the curses that have plagued their realms for centuries. Each ruler has something to hide. Each realm’s curse is uniquely wicked. To destroy the curses, one ruler must die.

Isla Crown is the young ruler of Wildling—a realm of temptresses cursed to kill anyone they fall in love with. They are feared and despised, and are counting on Isla to end their suffering by succeeding at the Centennial.

To survive, Isla must lie, cheat, and betray…even as love complicates everything.

This title will be released on August 23, 2022.

My Review:
So I decided to start this one last night and I only made it about 25% before I decided to call it quits. I did pick it back up today at work while on my break and just tried to get a little further. But I officially only made it to about 30%. I did skim the ending and I have to say that I was excepting more. For a book that was supposed to be THG and ACOTAR this should have been amazing. But that’s why I don’t read synopsis anymore because they just ruin things. I go in to books blind.

Overall I have the day the writing was very juvenile and started YA. I think if the main character would have been younger this could have worked out as a transition book for younger readers. Just getting into young adult.

The story was very confusing for a lot of it. And some things even at the start I had to go back and reread just to make sure I had a good grasp on what I just read. The magic was super weird and the stet wasn’t don’t know a way that really made me want to read more.

This wouldn’t be a title I could recommend to my readers as it just didn’t live up my standards and really just needs reworked.
