#BookReview: A Time for Swords by Matthew Harffy

Synopsis: Lindisfarne, AD793. The life of a novice monk will be changed forever when the Vikings attack in a new historical adventure from Matthew Harffy.

There had been portents – famine, whirlwinds, lightning from clear skies, serpents seen flying through the air. But when the raiders came, no one was prepared.

They came from the North, their dragon-prowed longships gliding out of the dawn mist as they descended on the kingdom's most sacred site.

It is 8th June AD793, and with the pillage of the monastery on Lindisfarne, the Viking Age has begun.

While his fellow monks flee before the Norse onslaught, one young novice stands his ground. He has been taught to turn the other cheek, but faced with the slaughter of his brothers and the pagan desecration of his church, forgiveness is impossible.

Hunlaf soon learns that there is a time for faith and prayer... and there is a time for swords.

My Review:  So this one. I have to say that it didn't wow me but I didn't hate it either.  I felt that the pacing wasn't as smoothly done as other books of its kind and that kind of killed some of my enjoyment of the story.  I wished the author would have taken more care with this.  The next issue I had was that this book has a ton of filler in it.  I think that the filler could have been taken out for the most part and this one would have been much faster paced.  I loved the show Vikings and well this one was kind of like that. It didn't feel like there was anything new to fall in love with because others have done a better job.

I do think that some readers will love this one but for me it just wasn't enough for me to fall in love with it.
