My Review: Although this was sold to the US as an adult fantasy. I say that it is closer to a young adult one.  I loved every second of this amazing debut! The was a beautifully written retelling of Beauty and the Beast.  I loved how it was all in the beasts POV as it really allowed us to feel what he was feeling.  

The flow of the story was wonderful.  I loved how the story felt as old as time but the wording used was more modern and it worked so well.  There was no real danger in this story which was kind of weird.  No Gaston to deal with, no village with pitchforks or fires, etc.    

My only issue with this one was towards the end.  When the beast of course is dying away and Isabellu (that is so spelled wrong) races back to save him it just felt very anti-climatic.  I wished that this story would have had more danger within the story.

About the Author

Leife Shallcross lives at the foot of a mountain in Canberra, Australia, with her family and a small, scruffy creature that snores. She is the author of several short stories, including "Pretty Jennie Greenteeth," which won the 2016 Aurealis Award for Best Young Adult Short Story. The Beast's Heart is her first novel.
