#BookReview: Winter, White and Wicked by Shannon Dittemore

Synopsis: Mad Max: Fury Road meets Frozen in this striking YA fantasy about a rig driver’s journey to save her friend

Twice-orphaned Sylvi has chipped out a niche for herself on Layce, an island cursed by eternal winter. Alone in her truck, she takes comfort in two things: the solitude of the roads and the favor of Winter, an icy spirit who has protected her since she was a child.
Sylvi likes the road, where no one asks who her parents were or what she thinks of the rebels in the north. But when her best friend, Lenore, runs off with the rebels, Sylvi must make a haul too late in the season for a smuggler she wouldn’t normally work with, the infamous Mars Dresden. Alongside his team—Hyla, a giant warrior woman and Kyn, a boy with skin like stone—Sylvi will do whatever it takes to save her friend.
But when the time comes, she’ll have to choose: safety, anonymity, and the favor of Winter—or the future of the island that she calls home. This title will be released on October 13, 2020.

My Review: This is one of those titles that tires to do too much all at once.  Within 50 pages you are thrown a ton of information and just dumped with all of it at once.  I think that it was just way too fast. This book is almost 400 pages long and I totally believe it would have been a massive hit if it would have given us information as a preface or better yet in small tidbits throughout the story.  Information that we need for a story is so hard to get right. And this one failed to do that.  Although I did enjoy the characters and the story at large. I wished that more time and care would have been taken with the much needed information.

Review

"Shannon Dittemore has constructed a wholly unique world in Winter, White and Wicked that you won't find traces of in any other fantasy. This refreshing read takes you down the treacherous ice roads of Layce, and stays with you long after the journey."
Adrienne Young, New York Times bestselling author of Sky in the Deep and The Girl the Sea Gave Back

“This magical story, teeming with grim lore, grotesque monsters, and gripping mysticism, swept me up like a winter gale and wouldn’t let me go. It was a privilege to meet Sylvi—a heroine as fierce and boundless as an arctic tundra—and to witness the thawing of her icy heart as she learns the value of friendship, found-family, and faith. Winter, White and Wicked transported me on a gritty, action-packed, and atmospheric journey across a wickedly glacial landscape, and I can’t wait to return again!”
A. G. Howard, #1 New York Times and international bestselling author of the Splintered series

"Winter, White and Wicked is a story that'll sink into your bones. The world is wholly unique, imaginative, and dangerous, the magic beautiful, but with bite. Dittemore offers a fresh, adventurous tale set in a frozen landscape, complete with a truck that's a character in its own right. I could not turn the pages fast enough."
Isabel IbaƱez, author of Woven in Moonlight

"A rare mix of equal parts lushly mysterious world-building and heart-pounding action. It will give you all the feels."
Maxine Kaplan, author of The Accidental Bad Girl and Wench

“A fresh, compelling fantasy that will keep you captivated from start to finish! I didn't know I needed a story that was half Mad Max: Fury Road and half Frozen-meets-Ice Road Truckers, but I did, and so do you.”
C. J. Redwine, New York Times bestselling author of The Shadow Queen
