The first lesson is to make yourself strong.
After the jaw-dropping revelation that Oak is the heir to Faerie, Jude must keep her younger brother safe.
To do so, she has bound the wicked king, Cardan, to her, and made herself the power behind the throne.
Navigating the constantly shifting political alliances of Faerie would be difficult enough if Cardan were easy to control.
But he does everything in his power to humiliate and undermine her even as his fascination with her remains undiminished.
When it becomes all too clear that someone close to Jude means to betray her, threatening her own life and the lives of everyone she loves, Jude must uncover the traitor and fight her own complicated feelings for Cardan to maintain control as a mortal in a Faerie world.

My Review: I do not really know what to say about this book other than OMG I do not believe I have to wait so long for book three. This book killed me in the most beautiful way and I could not put it down!! I pre ordered it as soon as I was done and my god why does book three have to be so far away?
All the cast is back in this follow up to the Cruel Prince and I have to say that things get way darker in this one. Everyone is out for themselves playing mind games and tricks to get what they want. Cardan and Jude's romance shines through the pages and its one of those romances that you love it but you also hate it. And I loved how the author never shys away from the hateful things that the Fey do. And by the last few pages of this one I was screaming that this could not be the end.
As I stated in my review of book one this has only been now the second book from Holly Black that I have not only enjoyed but outright freaking loved!! I have read everything else from her and hated it all. So that is a testement to how well this series has got me wrapped up in its spell.
If you loved book one you will die hard love this one then cry with me until book three is out!
The Wicked King has satisfying twists and turns, sizzling passions, brutal violence, spies and revels of all sorts--no one brings the intricate courtly politics of Faerie to life quite as well, or with as much intelligence, as Holly Black.

*"A heady blend of courtly double-crossing, Faerie lore, and toxic attraction swirls together in the sequel to THE CRUEL PRINCE...Black's writing is both contemporary and classic; her world is, at this point, intensely well-realized, so that some plot twists seem almost inevitable."
―Kirkus Starred Review
