But on the night of their first meeting a deadly tornado brings them together and awakens their true abilities - the power to control the element air. Unbeknown to Tate and Foster, they are the first in a group of teens that were genetically manipulated before birth to bond with the elements. Which truly sucks for Foster, as she has to face the fact that Dr. Rick Stewart, her beloved scientist father, betrayed her and now wants to use her and the others for his own nefarious world domination plot.
Foster and Tate must stop Dr. Stewart and his minions before he destroys their lives and the world.

My Review: So this book was a little weird for me. Don't get me wrong I did like it and will most likely check out book two. But there were a few things that were just a little off. Which really kept this from being the 5 stars read I was hoping for. I have been a lover of all things Cast since I found the House of Night series back when I first started this site almost 10 years ago. And this has to be the first book by the Casts that I just didn't outright love!!
The pictures in the book (yep we get pictures) at first were very nice but shortly after starting to find them they were really distracting and well kind of pulled my attention away from the story a little. I wished that they would have been in the back of the book all at once.
The start of the book tossed us into this story without any real set up. I did end up liking that it got the book right off starting but I think a little back story would have made me love it more. I will say that this one has a ton of action with the weather and really reminded me of Roar by Cora Carmack just a bit but that one was set in a fantasy world and this one is set in our own timeline but alternate. I think that worked out well and in this books favor.
The characters in this one are true blue teens. They were a little over the top right off the bat. But if you think about any kind of story, movie, or tv show that shows people with powers its almost ALWAYS their emotions that wreak havoc on their powers so that I think was perfect. Although at times I could not really connect with the characters. But they did seem like my 14-year-old though.
I really loved the blend of genres that this book had. It was just a little bit of everything and although I wished they would have taken the over the top stuff down just a notch I think for this book it worked out well. I will check out book two later I think because I am a total fan of the authors.
In the end, I would say that the one word to sum up this book would be DRAMATIC! It is over the top with so much of the story, the characters, and the magic. And for some, I think this book will work out very well.
This one I could see appealing to those who like the blend of comics/graphic novels and stories.
Go Into This One Knowing: Very DRAMATIC

“The mother-daughter writing team has a built-in audience from their phenomenally popular House of Night books; a must-buy for genre fans.” - Booklist
