Synopsis: Grace wants out. Out of her house, where her stepfather wields fear like a weapon and her mother makes her scrub imaginary dirt off the floors. Out of her California town, too small to contain her big city dreams. Out of her life, and into the role of Parisian artist, New York director—anything but scared and alone.
Enter Gavin: charming, talented, adored. Controlling. Dangerous. When Grace and Gavin fall in love, Grace is sure it's too good to be true. She has no idea their relationship will become a prison she's unable to escape.
Deeply affecting and unflinchingly honest, this is a story about spiraling into darkness—and emerging into the light again.
About the Author: Heather Demetrios is the author of several critically acclaimed novels including Something Real and I'll Meet You There. She is a recipient of the PEN New England Susan P. My Review: When I decided to read this I wasn't too sure what it was about. But I quickly learned that it was going to be full of snark and I was in love from the very first page. This book was so powerful I had issues putting it down. I read it in just a few hours and could not wait to write this review. This story about how Grace's love took a bad turn and is now over was one that I will not soon forget. Her home life is crap with a mother that just doesn't care and a step-father known as "The Giant" who is pretty abusive. It's amazing that Grace turned out the way she did.
I really loved what this author did with the characters. Grace is so strong even though her life pretty sucks and Gavin is just a boy we can fall for even though we know we shouldn't. This was a true look into how someone could love someone even though that person is abusing them. It gives a pretty eye-opening account how in real life wives and girlfriends go back to their husbands and boyfriends even though they are beating on them. How they choose to go back and don't get out.
Praise for I'll Meet You There:
