#BookishTravels with @adivineeternity:

HELLO! I'm back with another week of literary wanderlust. In the past, I've covered a very famous library and a place I've always wanted to go thanks to a book I read, so this week I wanted to bring you something else. I'll be featuring a place an author once loved to visit. Pack your sunscreen, a bathing suit, and a few good reads for the beach (might I suggest Huckleberry Finn, Tom Sawyer, or, more appropriately, The Innocents Abroad). You're gonna need 'em!

This week, we're all about Bermuda and this man, Samuel Clemens, or as we know him, Mark Twain. Situated in the North Atlantic about 578 nautical miles east-southeast of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, Bermuda is an island paradise and British Overseas Territory. After his first visit to Bermuda in November of 1867, he wrote of the islands in the letters which came to be known as The Innocents Abroad. He was infatuated with this small slice of heaven and returned several times over the course of the next forty years, making it a sort of second home with his extended visits.

I've been to Bermuda twice, as it's easily accessible from NYC by plane and cruise ship, and it's easy to understand his infatuation with the islands, even in modern times so different from when he was there. The houses are colorful, the water surrounding the islands is turquoise and crystal clear, and pink sand beaches along the south shore are beautiful and cool despite sitting all day under a hot sun, and the people are the nicest you will EVER meet. The islands are loaded with picturesque views, amazing views in every direction, and history everywhere between the forts scattered across the islands to many of the buildings and the historical figures, Mark Twain included, who visited them. It is, I must say, the perfect beach destination for a long weekend away with a stack of books to read, Mark Twain or otherwise.

I'm just going to drop a few of my own photos here as inspiration for your next trip.
