Nineteen-year-old Raggy Maggy is no different, despite the mysterious heart-shaped panel that covers her chest. Or at least she wasn’t… Not until her chance discovery of a Meridian-built clockwork dragon—and its murdered owner. When the Inquestors policing the city find Maggy at the scene of the crime, she quickly turns into their prime suspect. Now she’s all anyone can talk about. Even her clan leader turns his back on her, leading her to rely on an exiled doctor and a clanless Moon Child named Ghost to keep her hidden. In return, all she has to do is help them find a cure for the plague they believe was not exactly accidental. Yet doing so might mean risking more than just her life. It also might be the only key to uncovering the truth about the parents—and the past—she knows nothing about.
She spends her days in Northern Virginia working as a cube grunt and her nights waiting on her kids and her cats, punctuated by the occasional husbandly serenade. Sometimes she even manages to write. Mostly she just makes it up as she goes..

What can we expect from you in the future? ie More books of the same genre? Books of a different genre?I’ve just turned in the next book of this series into my editor. Entitled Magpie’s Fall, it should be out in December. (I don’t have a specific release date for it yet.) Following that will be Magpie’s Flight, which I am currently in the process of writing. I am also writing a standalone high fantasy, though I haven’t decided if I will self-pub it or try to sell it.
2. What do you do to unwind and relax? Do you have a hobby?Gaming or cross stitch, but I tend to do both as time allows. I have a day job, so usually any spare time I have will go to writing, though I always make sure to give myself time to play a little, especially after I’ve finished a deadline.
3. Have you ever suffered from a "writer's block"? What did you do to get past the "block"?I don’t know as I’ve hit an actual block – there are time when I just don’t feel like writing. Depending on what my timeline is (if I have a deadline, etc.) sometimes I try to just push through it. If that doesn’t work, I might spend time working on a different project (a short story, or my webcomic, or something “fun” that helps get the creative juices flowing.) In my case, a “block” usually means the story is heading in the wrong direction and it’s better to pull back and take an objective look at what’s going on instead of pushing forward and wasting time on something I’ll most likely throw out anyway.
4. Who is your publisher? or do you self-publish?I’m a hybrid author. My first three books are part of an Urban Fantasy series (Abby Sinclair series) and it was published by Pocket Books (Simon & Schuster). This new series (IronHeart Chronicles) is self-pubbed. I also write/produce a webcomic called Fox & Willow which can be found at http://www.sadsausagedogs.com.
5. Do you basic plot/plan for your book, before you actually begin writing it out? Or do you let the writing flow and see where it takes the story?
I’m more of a panster than a plotter. I usually have a notebook that I will write down ideas or a basic outline, but it’s a fluid process and it changes on the fly. Usually I know how the book begins and how it ends – the rest just sort of happens as it goes. Obviously that doesn’t always work (hence the block question), but that’s when I will take a few days to evaluate where I am and where I’m trying to go and if there’s anything that needs changing or will take the story in a different direction.
