Princess Sepora of Serubel is the last Forger in all the five kingdoms. The spectorium she creates provides energy for all, but now her father has found a way to weaponize it, and his intentions to incite war force her to flee his grasp. She escapes across enemy lines into the kingdom of Theoria, but her plans to hide are thwarted when she is captured and placed in the young king’s servitude.
Tarik has just taken over rulership of Theoria, and must now face a new plague sweeping through his kingdom and killing his citizens. The last thing he needs is a troublesome servant vying for his attention. But Mistress Sepora will not be ignored. When the two finally meet face-to-face, they form an unlikely bond that complicates life in ways neither of them could have imagined.
Sepora's gift may be able to save Tarik’s kingdom. But should she risk exposing herself and her growing feelings for her nemesis?
Anna Banks is the author of the New York Times-bestselling Syrena Legacy: Of Poseidon, Of Triton, and Of Neptune(all Fierce Reads titles), as well as the standalone novel, Joyride. She lives in Crestview, on the Florida Panhandle, with her husband and their daughter.
When I first started this book I loved this cover!! Its eye catching and beautiful, yet after reading the book I really wish that the publisher would have done something different. There are so many amazing elements to Sepora and this world that Banks has created and none of them are on this cover. Its just a plain girl covered in silver paint. With some very dramatic silver eyes that are not even seen very well because of all the silver. So for me this is one cover that I really REALLY hope that they decide to change. That pretty much goes for the title as well.
The start of this book is slightly boring I won't sugar coat it for you!!! I put this book down and finished two others before I picked it back up and finished it. The first 100 or so pages is more info dumping/history of this world vs. anything to really get the story going. But after that it gets much better. I didn't really care for the two POVs in some parts it was really awesome to be in both character's heads but for the most part I think this book could have been called the Forger and just been in Sepora's POV.
Banks did a wonderful job creating a new world. Building 5 kingdoms each with their own set of rules, religion, and way of life is no simple task and she hit it out of the park!! I really hope that we get to see more of the other kingdoms in the books that follow this series. I would love to know more about each of them.
The twists and turns in this book once it gets going will keep you reading until the very end. Banks did a kick ass job with the suspense. Since of course we know the truth about who Sepora is and I spent a good portion of the book yelling at her to just tell him the truth!! I really loved the Lengot's (I think thats spelled right. If not I'm sorry Anna!!!) They know when someone is telling the truth or is lying be it in person or even in a letter. They also can understand all languages which if you ask me is freaking awesome!!! The history of this work was a joy to read about. As I said before the first part of the book is nothing but the history. I really wish the author would have separated it out through the book vs. giving it to us all at once. It really was great information BUT it was a little tedious to read it all in one sitting. I think if it would have been given to us throughout the book that would have been better and it would have made the first part of the story go faster.
This boo gave me a feeling of An Ember in the Ashes feeling on how the POV was done. It was very good and I can't wait for the next one!!

Go Into This One Knowing
No love triangle, Cliffhanger but it won't kill you, Slow beginning, Info dumping
Side Note: After getting this posted a few weeks ago. I had a thought. This would have been even more twisted if we wouldn't have known who Sepora was. That way that the cliffhanger would have been much more surprising to us the reader!! It was still good but it could have been better if we wouldn't have been in on the secret.
