Synopsis: At sixteen, Lady Victoria Mansfield, youngest daughter of the earl and countess of Fairmount, is destined for a charmed life and her choice of mates worthy of her status. Then she makes a terrifying discovery that will ruin her life and disgrace her family forever. Tory's blood is tainted... by magic.
When a shocking accident forces Tory to reveal her despised skill, she is immediately exiled to Lackland Abbey, a reform school for young men and women in her position. Tory's greatest wish is to be cured so she can return home and perhaps recover some of her shattered life.
Instead, curiosity and the lure of magic lead Tory to rebel students who have pledged their talents to protect England. As she joins them in their secret studies, she discovers her full powers - and is drawn to the handsome, enigmatic young Marquis of Allarde. But Allarde'a reserve and haunting secret keep him away, though she can see equal longing in his eyes.
Then Tory's pledge sweeps her and her friends into a perilous world of danger, challenge, and a triumph that saves Britain from conquest. Can danger also bring Tory and Allarde together, despite all that stands between them?

My Review:
This review was first published in April of 2011 |
I wish there had been a little more Story to this book but all in all it was very well written. The book's synopsis says practically nothing about the plot, which made it an interesting reading experience for me because that practically never happens for me anymore. My copy is an ARC so I had a few typos to deal with but not to much and nothing that messed with the reading. The book had a VERY good pace and wants stagnate at all which in some of my books happens far to much.
It gives a very good example how things can change over a very limited amount of time. Where something like magic can one day be the thing and the next a few years down the line be considered dirty and evil. Where like in the 50's unwed mothers were sent away to
I read this book in one day, I started at around 9am and just finished up at around 8pm so around 11 hours or so mixed in with eating and playing with the almost 6 month old.

“Putney, an award-winning adult romance author, keeps the pace fast, adds a dash of suspense and shines a friendly light on history while providing plenty of entertainment in her first novel for teens.” ―Kirkus Reviews

I really liked Dark Mirror too! The sequel was okay, but I honestly don't really remember what happened in it. Lol
